Atlas Cables Announces New Reference Digital Cables – the Mavros Ultra and Ascent Ultra

20th February 2015 – Kilmarnock, Scotland – Atlas Cables, the world-renowned audio cable manufacturer, is pleased to announce the launch of the new Mavros Ultra and Ascent Ultra SPDIF Digital cables. After a two-year shared development programme with the range-topping Asimi Ultra Analogue interconnects, the Mavros Ultra Digital and Ascent Ultra Digital range raise the bar at their respective price points by delivering a more consistent, low reflection, low jitter digital signal.

The new Mavros signal conductor is a silver plated solid core conductor surrounded by multiple satellite conductors of the purest OFC (Oxygen Free Copper). Highly efficient microporous PTFE (Teflon) dielectric is built up layer by layer before being covered in a tight weave copper screen to secure the very important 75ohm characteristic impedance specification. Special attention is paid to the application of the PTFE to ensure that the maximum amount of air is trapped, which is the most efficient dielectric constant, whilst at the same time maintaining stability in the overall application of dielectric to keep the consistent 75ohm characteristic.

Ascent Ultra Digital

The Ascent signal conductor is manufactured using concentric stranding of highly conductive, purest OCC copper. The conductor is then covered with a highly efficient foamed Polyethylene dielectric and then covered in a tight weave copper screen before being finished in a very attractive grey polyester fabric.

Both the Mavros Ultra Digital and Ascent Ultra Digital are fitted with the new Atlas proprietary Ultra Plug. This new plug employs a novel approach to the problems associated with mass reduction, residual conductivity (eddy currents) and dielectric discontinuities, all of which can affect the mechanical and electrical properties of a finished cable assembly. The all-new Mavros and Ascent Ultra plug has a 57% reduction in mass over its predecessor and employs an internal non-conductive sleeve matched to the dielectric properties of the cable . As with all Atlas plugs, the Ultra plug maintains the renowned solder free construction, self-cleaning insertion and material consistency that helps deliver the best fidelity.

Commenting on the launch of the Mavros Ultra Digital and Ascent Ultra Digital, Kevin Kelly, Managing Director at Atlas Cables, said, “As a specialist audio brand, we constantly look for technical advances and strive to make a better engineered, better sounding product. These new digital cables represent the very latest technology, initially developed for the range-topping Asimi Ultra. The audible results from the new Ultra Plug continue to amaze across both analogue and digital signals and we are confident that the new Mavros Ultra Digital and Ascent Ultra Digital cables represent market leading performance for the price.”
