Never one to rest on its laurels, Japanese audio accessories brand Furutech has once again further extended its range of high-performance power connectors with the addition of three new IEC models, which are positioned just under the range topping FI-50.
Furutech’s connectors have always featured an impressive array of breakthrough technologies and construction techniques designed to perceptibly improve the performance of audio and AV systems, and the new FI-46 NCF (gold), FI-48 NCF (silver) and FI-48 NCF (rhodium) IEC power connectors are no exception.
The trio’s pure copper conductors are (as their names suggest) plated with gold, silver or rhodium for superior conductivity – the latter in particular providing high-resolution sound reproduction, a high speed response and a high signal/noise ratio.
All three models have a nylon/fiberglassbody with Nano Crystal² Formula (NCF). Created by, and exclusive to, Furutech, NCF features a special crystalline material that has two ‘active’ properties. First, it generates negative ions that eliminate static. Second, it converts thermal energy into far infrared. Furutech combines this remarkable material with nano-sized ceramic particles and carbon powder for their additional ‘piezoelectric effect’ damping properties. The resulting Nano Crystal² Formula is the ultimate electrical and mechanical damping material.
Furutech’s patented Floating Field Damper System, meanwhile, solves the biggest problem you never realized you had by star-grounding the metal parts in which floating magnetic fields are induced by current flow. All the various metal parts of the connector are tied together in such a way as to shunt whatever electrical potentials are generated to ground. This significantly lowers noise by reducing distortion for ultra-clean and stable power transfer.
Each of the three conductors features an aluminium or stainless steel housing incorporating damping and insulation materials selected to improve frequency extension and tonal balance. A high quality metal cable clamp improves grip and reduces mechanically and electrically induced distortion. And, in common with all Furutech products, all metal parts are ‘alpha’-treated: a proprietary process involving cryogenic freezing and ring demagnetization, designed to significantly improve electrical conductivity.
