Two issues are close to the heart of many audio enthusiasts. They want to enjoy the uncompromising sound of reference headphones like the beyerdynamic T 1, but at the same time want to be free to move around their apartment unchained from their hi-fi system.
Since 2010, the audio specialists from Heilbronn have offered these enthusiasts the T 5 p, a version of the top-end model that is optimised for use on portable audio devices. Like the stationary T 1 before it, the second generation of the T 5 p is now available – for an even more perfect musical experience.
New Sound Tuning
The sophisticated tuning features provide results that experts on the subject barely thought possible: a further improvement in the exceptionally deep sound of the T 5 p, which was so well received in so many tests. To do that, the developers went straight to the heart of the exclusive Tesla sound transducers – the centrepiece of every T model produced by beyerdynamic.
Additional attenuation in the driver eliminates disruptive high-frequency resonances. The geometry of the baffle design has also been optimised, while the single-layer baffle material has been replaced with a more stable, high-tech compound material. Vibrations are reduced to a minimum, resulting in even clearer reproduction with silky treble and ultra-precise bass. The result: the wealth of detail and neutrality is complemented with a warmth and musicality to inspire any audiophile listener.
Optimised for Portable Players
The electrical resistance of 32 ohms makes the T 5 p the ideal partner for portable audio devices. Thanks to the Tesla technology, the low-impedance sound transducers unleash the full audio potential of even inefficient smartphones, tablets and high-resolution players.
Naturally, whoever wants to can also still connect the T 5 p to their hi-fi system or a high-quality headphone amplifier. The textile-covered cable made from ultra-pure OCC 7N copper is the gold standard of audio connections. It is detachable and can be replaced with a longer version if required – for more freedom of movement when using the system. Also available as an accessory is a cable with a 4-pin XLR connector for balanced connections.
Closed but Still Spacious
Thanks to its closed design, the T 5 p reliably prevents unwanted noise from penetrating inwards or escaping outwards. That is a real benefit to the wearer if he or she is listening to music on the sofa while some else is watching television. Likewise, listening to loud music won’t disrupt people around you who might want to read a book in peace.
Normally, closed headphone designs restrict the spaciousness of the audio reproduction. That’s not the case with the T 5 p: Tilted sound transducers positioned on the casing shell on the wearer’s ear deliver an extremely spacious sound with a wide soundstage – and a transparency usually associated with open systems.
High-End Even in Terms of Wearer Comfort
The headband and ear cups are made with the highest-quality artificial leather that the market has to offer. The protein-coated surface fits like a second skin and keeps its comfortable grip and stylish look even after years of wear. The memory-foam cups take care of the rest and make listening to music with the T 5 p a simple pleasure. Using your body temperature, they adjust to the shape of your head to provide a comfortable and completely pressure-free fit.
The new portable Tesla reference model is available at a price of EUR 990.- from the end of January.
