Following rave reviews in the Japanese press, initial production runs of Furutech’s new NCF Booster sold out to industry insiders before even making it as far as audio retailers’ shelves. Fortunately, the company has since increased production and now the NCF Booster is ready for international release.
Cable holders (also known as supports, lifters, risers or elevators) are generally designed improve the performance of audio cables by minimising their points of contact with the floor, reducing electromagnetic interference. Furutech’s NCF Booster, however, goes even further.
Not only does it lift audio cables off the floor and enable optimum alignment between connectors and sockets, it also provides additional damping support for both cables and connectors – boosting their performance by allowing a more pure and clear signal.
As its name suggests, a key ingredient in the NCF Booster is Furutech’s Nano Crystal² Formula (NCF), an ‘active’ anti-resonance damping material. Developed by, and exclusive to, Furutech, NCF features a special crystalline material that has two active properties. First, it generates negative ions that eliminate static. Second, it converts thermal energy into far infrared. Furutech combines this remarkable material with nano-sized ceramic particles and carbon powder for their additional piezoelectric damping properties. The resulting Nano Crystal² Formula delivers superb electrical and mechanical damping.
The effect of that damping, particularly when applied to the critical junction between mains plug and socket, is to reduce audible noise significantly. The clarity and stability of the soundstage improve noticeably as a result. Bass frequencies gain extra focus and weight while high frequencies lose a layer of ‘fuzz’. The overall musical performance becomes more relaxed, more resolute and more real.
